Died Today: September 20, 2003 - Gordon Mitchell

Gordon Mitchell was born Charles Allen Pendleton in Denver, Colorado, on July 29, 1923 and died in Marina Del Rey, California, on September 20, 2003.

Following a tour of duty in World War II, where he was a prisoner of war, he returned to California and became a high school teacher. He lived near Muscle Beach and befriended other bodybuilders who became actors, like Steve Reeves, Mickey Hargitay, and Mark Forest. He specialized in Italian Sword and Sandals movies starring in “Atlas In The Land Of The Cyclops” playing the title role of “Atlas.” He created a sensation with other bodybuilders by joining "The Mae West Revue" in the 1950’s.
